NERC Orders DISCO to Disconnect Debtor Customers

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has  directed electricity distribution companies  to commence mass disconnection of persistent electricity debtors.

The commission said the directive has become imperative following lack of commitment by some electricity consumers to pay their debts.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the commission clarified that defaulting customers could be disconnected.

According to the statement signed by the acting Chairman of NERC, Dr Anthony Akah, the commission is serious by the directive.

He said, “We are unambiguous in our directives that the Discos should observe laid down procedures in disconnecting electricity customers.”
