Elon Musk To Unveil Brain-Computer Interface

SpaceX and Tesla CEO, Elon Musk said his brain-computer interface is “coming soon”.

The brain behind Neuralink tweeted the news after being asked what was happening with the neurotechnology company Neuralink which he founded in 2016.

It is believed Neuralink aims to create a small chip that would connect a human brain to a computer. The aim of the device would be to upload and download thoughts although Musk has not given any more details about the product or when it will be created.

In an interview last year with Axios, Musk said the technology would involve “a chip and a bunch of tiny wires” surgically implanted into the skull.

“‘The long term aspiration with Neuralink would be to achieve a symbiosis with artificial intelligence and to achieve a sort of democratization of intelligence,” he told Axios.

He said this would mean that intelligence is not only held by governments and large corporations: In theory all humans could have a higher level of artificial intelligence.

“I believe this can be done…It’s probably on the order of a decade,” he said at the time.

The SpaceX CEO has previously urged caution regarding the development of artificial intelligence, saying it could potentially spiral out of control.

Musk believes another use of the Neuralink technology could be to reduce memory loss or help people with spinal cord injuries.
