United Arab Emirates Launches Historic First Mars Mission

The United Arab Emirates has launched its historic first mission to Mars with Japanese spacecraft on Sunday.

Arab world’s first interplanetary mission was achieved after United Arab Emirates spacecraft Amal, which is also known as hope, took off from Japan.

According to Evening Standard, the seven-month journey to Mars set off from from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Centre at 9.58pm GMT on Sunday

Considering some challenges like bad weather, which occurred, the launch, initially planned for July 15, was delayed for five days.

Meanwhile, the feat was appreciated by Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba who made comments after a virtual launch watch party.

Al Otaiba said, “Years of hard work and dedication have paid off in a big way.

“This is a huge accomplishment, but it’s just the beginning.”

On the assignments and expections of Hope, it is scheduled to circle the Red Planet for at least two years, as it carries three instruments with it to study the upper atmosphere and monitor climate change

Another objective highlighted by Emirates Mars Mission project director Omran Sharaf is that the mission will provide a complete view of the Martian atmosphere during different seasons for the first time.

Ambassador Al Otaiba while making further comments stated that:

“It’s hard to put the words together but honestly, watching that take off, knowing how hard it was, knowing how challenging it was, witnessing that success made me feel immense pride.
