Facebook Reverses Ban On News Pages In Australia

Online social networking website Facebook has reversed the ban on news pages in Australia.

This development comes after the tech giant blocked news to Australians on its platform since last Thursday.

The core aspect of the ban occurred when a dispute came over a proposed law which would force it and Google to pay news publishers for content.

In reaction to the ban, Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg had told him the ban would end “in the coming days”, after the pair had talks.

Considering some factors, Facebook decided to announce it will restore news content to its users in the country.

Meanwhile, Mr Frydenberg’s conclusion was that amendments would be made to the law.

While speaking to reporters in Canberra on Tuesday, he said, “Facebook has re-friended Australia.”

The government has been debating the law – seen as a possible test case for regulation globally – in the Senate, after it was passed in the lower house last week.
