TikTok Appoints Shou Zi Chew As New CEO

Video-sharing social networking service, TikTok has finally appointed a new permanent chief executive.

Shouzi Chew, who joined the company earlier this year as chief financial officer of ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese owner has been named as the CEO, the company announced on Friday.

Since its inception, the Chinese company has experienced some changes, and one of such is this development, which is coming eight months after its former leader called it quits. Moreover, in the past, the United States threatened to ban the app, CNN reports.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he had previously been a top executive at Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker.

Another change made after the appointment of Chew, is change of Vanessa Pappas, who previously served as TikTok’s interim head, to the role of chief operating officer of TikTok.

ByteDance CEO Yiming Zhang reacted in a statement, since the appointment of these persons occurred.

Zhang said, “The leadership team of Shou and Vanessa sets the stage for sustained growth,”

“Shou brings deep knowledge of the company and industry, having led a team that was among our earliest investors, and having worked in the technology sector for a decade. He will add depth to the team, focusing on areas including corporate governance and long-term business initiatives.”

In the view of Chew, a Singaporean national, the company no longer feels it needs a US-based leader.

TikTok is a social media platform is used to make a variety of short-form videos, from genres like dance, comedy, and education that have duration from 15 seconds to one minute.
