Australian 24-hour cable and satellite channel, Sky News Australia has been barred from uploading new content for a week by online social media platform, You Tube for breaching rules on spreading Covid-19 misinformation.
The company issued a “strike” under its three-strike policy, the last of which means permanent removal, BBC reports.
As for YouTube, specific items were not pointed to by the company but it opposed material that “could cause real-world harm”.
In reaction the development, the TV channel’s digital editor stated that the decision was a disturbing attack on the ability to think freely.
Sky News Australia which has1.85 million YouTube subscribers is owned by a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
On the effects of the ban, it has been discovered that it could affect its revenue stream from Google.
According to a statement by YouTube, it had “clear and established Covid-19 medical misinformation policies based on local and global health authority guidance”.
