Nigeria Lifts Twitter Ban After Company Agrees To Conditions

The ban on social networking site Twitter, in Nigeria has been lifted by the country seven months after it was banned.

The suspension which was imposed on Twitter by Nigeria in June last year, prompted the deletion of a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari about punishing regional secessionists.

The issue triggered comments and reaction from the public and social media users and made authorities accused the social media firm of siding with the secessionists.

Nigerian government later agreed to reversing the ban after Twitter agreed to conditions including opening a local office in Nigeria.

Below is twitter’s comment on its platform after the ban was lifted.

‘’We are pleased that Twitter has been restored for everyone in Nigeria. Our mission in Nigeria and around the world, is to serve the public conversation.

We are deeply committed to Nigeria, where Twitter is used by people for commerce, cultural engagement, and civic participation.’’
