Recently announced Twitter $8 blue check subscription service was paused on Friday as fake account mushroomed.
Previously the blue check mark was reserved for verified accounts of public figures, brands, politicians. Earlier this week Twitter rolled out a subscription option open to anyone that pays to make Twitter grow revenue and to retain advertisers.
It was reported by several users that the new subscription option for the blue verification check mark disappeared.
“To combat impersonation, we’ve added an “official” label to some accounts, “Witter’s support account with the “official” tag tweeted on Friday. The label was killed by Musk just hours after it was originally introduced on Wednesday.
Musk warned in his first companywide email on Thursday that twitter would not be able to “survive the upcoming economic downturn ” if it failed to boost subscription revenue to offset falling advertising income.
