Thursday saw the launch of a new generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool from South Korean internet giant Naver, joining the buzz surrounding the new technology that was first sparked by OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot.
Despite the hoopla surrounding the developing technology and the billions of dollars in investments, the majority of businesses and developers have not yet begun to monetize it.
According to Naver, its AI product, HyperCLOVA X, will offer users generative AI-driven searches in addition to brand-new customized services for business clients.
As part of its toolkit, HyperCLOVA X offers the chatbot CLOVA X, which aims to enhance web search, online shopping, and navigation services, as well as the generative AI function Cue:, which can be integrated into its search engine.
According to the firm, Naver will begin beta services for CLOVA X on Thursday and for Cue: in September.
In order to promote the growth of its AI technology, Naver has stated that it is working with Samsung Electronics to create innovative, smaller, and more effective semiconductor solutions.
Naver said on Thursday that the company intends to open a new data center for the HyperCLOVA X services in November.
Choi Soo-yeon, the chief executive officer of Naver, stated, “We are prepared to tackle a new change known as generative AI.
At its debut event in Seoul, Choi addressed the crowd, saying, “Now in the era of generative AI, a fierce battle is under way to get picked by services and business partners.”
Although Naver and its local rivals lag behind industry leaders like Alphabet’s Google and Microsoft’s OpenAI, they are attempting to enter specialized markets that the American and Chinese tech giants have not yet entered.
For Middle Eastern nations with political sensitivity as well as non-English speaking nations and areas like Japan and Southeast Asia, Naver is trying to develop localized AI applications.
Choi stated that although the company was in discussions with international partners about the internationalization of its new AI services, it was not yet prepared to name those partners.
